Why I work at Credit Human

Meet Dominique Tyson, Member Relationship Specialist

    2/18/2026

If you spend time at the Magazine Street Financial Health Center in Uptown New Orleans, chances are you’ll meet Dominique Tyson. She has a calm, reassuring presence—the kind that makes you feel like you can finally take a deep breath when talking about money. Dominique is a Member Relationship Specialist, a Certified Credit Union Financial Counselor, a licensed real estate professional and a proud NOLA native. She’s also a wife, mom of four and a business owner, which means she deeply understands how financial decisions ripple through every part of life.

This is heart work for me.

    Dominique Tyson Member Relationship Specialist

Dominique joined Credit Human in 2023, bringing years of experience helping families navigate homeownership, credit and long-term financial planning. For her, this work goes beyond numbers and paperwork—it’s personal. So, we sat down with her to learn more about her story and here’s what she had to say.

On finding her way to Credit Human

I first learned about Credit Human through a mortgage representative I worked with while helping one of my real estate clients. He spoke so highly of the organization that it immediately caught my attention. I felt confident about the opportunity from the start. That first impression turned out to be right. Since joining, I’ve seen firsthand that Credit Human truly puts people first—both members and employees. I’ve learned that organizations really do exist that prioritize people in every decision and interaction. Being part of a place that values professional development while also serving members with care has been incredibly affirming.

What a typical day looks like

No two days look exactly the same for me, and that’s part of what I love. On any given day, I might be:

    • Meeting one-on-one with members to talk through loans, credit or savings goals
    • Delivering financial literacy presentations for community partners
    • Collaborating with colleagues on outreach and education programs
    • Following up with members to make sure they feel supported
    • Completing continuing education and learning opportunities

At the core, my job is about listening. Understanding where someone is, what they’re worried about and how we can move forward together.

Why this work matters so much

Every day, I meet new people and walk alongside them during vulnerable moments. Moments when money feels overwhelming or uncertain. Sometimes, those conversations lead to life-changing outcomes. I love the flexibility and creative freedom Credit Human gives me to do this work. I get to collaborate with different partners to design financial literacy programs that actually educate and support better outcomes. This is heart work for me.

A moment that stays with her

One member came into the Financial Health Center asking for a personal loan. She was feeling stretched thin by expenses and worried about hurricane season approaching without any savings to fall back on. Through a deeper conversation, I learned the member had significant equity in her home. Instead of a high-interest personal loan, a home equity loan could offer much better terms and more flexibility. What began as a request for a $10,000 loan turned into a $50,000 home equity loan with a lower interest rate. That shift allowed her to pay down debt, support her mother and build a real emergency fund. Seeing the relief on her face reminded me why this work is so meaningful.

What she's learned along the way

Since joining Credit Human, I have grown both professionally and personally. Working at an organization that aligns with my values has only deepened my passion for helping others build strong financial foundations. I’m especially grateful for the chance to empower people with knowledge, whether that’s understanding credit, preparing for homeownership or simply feeling more confident about their next step.

Life outside the Financial Health Center

As a “NOLA Girl” I enjoy a good drink, eating seafood in the park on weekends and spending time with my husband and four kids.
